Winter

Happy Friday!  Why are weeks that start with a Monday holiday the longest?

Today winter is really here in Philadelphia.  Cold with serious wind chill factors.

I know most people go through the stages above, but as you know, I am very fond of winter.  So although I spend most of it dressed like the "Acceptance" guy, I am not sad about it.

Most people I know do not like winter at all.  They are 100% Team Summer, so they find nothing redeemable about the wintertime.  The other day I came across this blog post, and I have to say, I thought it was lovely, whether or not you are a fan of this time of year.  So I'm sharing it, hoping that especially for those of you who are miserable, you might be able to appreciate winter a bit more, even if you know you'll never love it.

Have a good weekend.  If you are somewhere cold, stay warm and cozy!  We have no specific plans for this coming weekend, so there will be lots of tea, kitty and doggie snuggling, and embracing all of the cozy.  I can't wait.

(Not my house. But *just* like it ... yeah, no.)

Thanks for the link to what was a lovely, beautifully written essay. It IS a good perspective on Winter.

But I still hate it.

I'm no huge fan of Summertime, either, outside of its bounty of fresh produce and our weekends spent at the lake. I'm a Springtime Girl through and through. It's a season that is becoming almost obsolete, thanks to climate change. I shall hate to see it go.

super cold here and I'm bundled up whether I'm inside or outside :)

I've probably said it before. I'm not a really a winter person. I like snow. But I don't like winter. If winter was like no colder than -5 C, and the snow stayed pretty, and the sun was out a lot, I'd probably love it (like those perfect tobogganing days after a big snow storm).
That said, I could really do without blistering summer too. My perfect world has summers no hotter than 28 C (perfect swimming weather) with lots of soft, cooling breezes. No humidity, just warm, cheerful days.
I think I just need a year of spring and autumn, with a dry and rainy season in between in place of summer and winter

It's currently -11 C with barely any snow on the ground, and what snow is there is dirty and gross.). Definitely ready for spring

I love winter and kind of miss it now that we live somewhere where, on average, the temperature fluctuates about ten degrees during the year.

Tim was just saying that this week seemed really, really long.

Another reason we're friends. Spring and Summer can take flying leaps. Team Fall and Winter all the way.

That was a good essay on winter. I will take winter over summer any day. No heat, humidity or bugs. I do not enjoy summer in the South and winters are not normally too severe. We do have a winter weather advisory for this weekend so I will be staying in and having a cozy weekend also.

The Mister and I have a thing that when we go out and it's really, really cold we always look for the guy in shorts. There's always one somewhere and we always laugh about it when we find him-and it's always a him.

That was a lovely essay. I can appreciate some things about winter, especially from a practical point of view. I live in Oregon, and a cold, wet winter might stave off drought and fires. But it doesn’t change how I feel, which is blah. The gray just gets in me, I’m never warm enough, and everything feels like an ordeal. I’m fully grateful for my warm home and having everything I need, and I know I have, really, nothing to complain about. It still feels like a trudge. Sun and longer days just make me feel better- motivated, hopeful, open. The best thing to me about winter is watching spring’s little signs start to pop up- like the buds on the Daphne and the hellebores blooming. That, and handknits make it bearable for me.

There is a mosh-mash of seasonal preferences or appetites with us humans.
I’ve been in a few places that have opposite seasons than the states, and the feeling is the same - to me it depends on the temperature, winter or colder weather needs to be just above 30 degrees to be fine, summer or warmer weather below 80 degrees is okay but then the darn humidity gets in the picture. But, then my mood. Argh.
What to do? Go thru those degrees of grief and accept it after a week or two.
(to get acclimatized = to adapt (someone) to a new temperature, altitude, climate, environment, or situation)

I really do like summer . . . but . . . I also enjoy winter. I like snow. I don't mind the cold (because I have a warm house and proper winter clothes). I want winter to go away, though . . . come March. And that's when I start to have Problems With Winter. When it won't go away. . . ;-)

That was a lovely link...although, like you, I'm in the minority when it comes to winter love. I do love it. Hyper hygge season. I just wish we got most snow, like in the 'good old days'. Brisk winter breezes will have to do for now!

I am also a fan of winter and it is so cozy being inside when it is snowing outside. I also like bundling up and going for walks in the snow even better if the snow is falling softly as I am walking. The best is winter weather during Christmas it is such a magical time. I am the acceptance guy in your photo too and don't mind it. Good time to wear what we have knitted!
