Later, I realized that for some people, they would just say it. I mean, nearly every person I know regularly uses the f-word as part of their daily conversation. A LOT.
Me? Not a big fan in general. It's not like I get all upset when I hear it - because like I said, it's everywhere all of the time. But I just never actually say it. Personally, I think it's rude. But it's not like I say anything to those who use it, I've really just figured that's life these days.
Which reminded me of a funny story. Probably about 10 years ago, my niece Amanda threw a surprise anniversary party for her parents' 40th wedding anniversary. It was really lovely, and also funny in lots of ways.
Before it started, Amanda asked if I would go to the venue with her to make sure it was set up properly, and also put some party favors on the tables. We got there, and things were not set up the way she had asked. So while she was speaking to the people at the catering place, I was moving some tables and putting the party favors out. No big deal, and I would rather be doing stuff than sitting waiting for things to start.
Amanda got pleasantly drunk at the party, and at the after party at her house, where there was just family and family friends, she was telling everyone about the tables being set up incorrectly. She said, "And Bridget walked into the room, and said, OH MY GOD, WHAT THE F*** DID YOU DO?" And I said, "Actually, Amanda - you said that." And my niece Liz's husband Greg said, "I was wondering about that. I've actually never heard Aunt Bridget use that word at all." Everyone cracked up, including Amanda. 😂
Did any of you ever used to watch the show "Modern Family?" One of the characters was the dad of three young kids, two who were teens. In one of the first episodes, he is speaking to the camera, and saying how he likes to be sure to use and understand the lingo that the kids use, because then they think he's really cool. He says, "You know, like LOL for laugh out loud. Or BTW for by the way. My favorite though is WTF - why the face?"
Well, as you can well imagine, that became viral in our family. We still will say to each other "Why The Face?" and of course, laugh really hard. To the point where now when I see the abbreviation WTF, my first thought is "Why the Face?" and I'm amused.
Feel free to join me - it's a whole lot more fun that way!

I'm sitting here raising my hand sheepishly to confess to being a big user of THE word. It's the one word my parents, who cussed up a storm, never used so it was of course, my favorite word for getting attention.
This will confuse my children --- thanks for the idea.
I'm not a big fan either. I subscribe to a dance workout program online and the founder drops that f bomb way too frequently for me. Just shut up and dance.
I am surprised how common place the f-word has become. It is way overused, IMO.
I can totally relate, lol. I remember way back when I caught on to the lingo before others my age did. For a long time, my sister-in-law assumed lol stood for lots of love, which I can't imagine would have even fit properly with whatever I was writing. LOL and WTF are probably the only abbreviations I still consider acceptable in writing or texts - otherwise, even if I know what they mean, those shortcuts usually annoy me.
I may use the "F" word when I am alone but I never say it in a group. My Mom hated that word and thought it was the worst word so if I do let it slip when I am on my own, I always say "sorry, Mom" to her afterwards even tho, she died years ago...
A delightful suggestion, but there are times (especially these days when news update after news update has me seriously asking the other version of wtf...)
I am a proponent of a well-placed f-bomb. That said . . . I have a good friend who "swears like a sailor." It's really not a good look for her, actually. And . . . spending more time with her last year made me HYPER-aware of my own level of swearing. So I decided to stop. It wasn't hard for me to do, actually. I find myself rarely dropping any f-bombs anymore. But when I do? It's always appropriate. ;-)
