Unraveled Wednesday, Indeed

I finally have my act together enough to join Kat and some others for Unraveled Wednesdays.  I would keep meaning to join in, but would either forget or not have any pictures handy to share.

Today is indeed unraveling for me, in the emotional sense.  The past week or so has been really difficult health-wise, for myself and some other family members as well.  Nothing like having it all piled on at once.  Because we cannot just stop and go back to bed and shut out the world though, there's no choice but to manage as well as you can at any given moment, and we're trying.  Sorry to be vague, but it's not anything I can bear to go into right now.  I'm sure that soon you'll hear all about it whether or not you want to!

So, as I often say, Onward.

I have two finished socks to show you today - but they are not a pair.  (Kinda like the joke of when is a door not a door?)

The sock on the left is the first Mojito sock, finished on Monday evening.  I love the colors, and can't wait to cast on for sock #2.  But before I do, I wanted to at least put the Afterthought Heel in one of the socks I finished before we went on our trip.  So I did that yesterday afternoon, after getting home from a dr appt.  And I *will* do the other sock as well, but not right away, since the first one was not pleasant.  I am however, determined to finish the socks, so it will happen at some point.  (Warning: in some post in the near future, you will have to hear my ranting about the Afterthought Heel.  In a nutshell; Not a fan.)

When Knitting Annoys - film at 11!

The book is one I started this past weekend.  I'm not very far into it yet, but I'm finding it very interesting.  I heard about it on the Treehouse Knits podcast, where she mentioned that she and another podcaster have a reading group (and of course I am too lazy to locate the links that would actually help you find it.  Sorry about that).  I borrowed it from the library, to see what I think.  It's one of those books that if I had to read it for a class, or for formal discussion, I'd be worried because there's a lot of information and dates from B.C.; but since I'm reading it for my own purposes, I'm doing OK because I feel no pressure to remember every single specific fact.

I'm also listening to the audio book Messenger of Truth, by Jacqueline Winspear. Needless to say, it's much lighter and easier to manage, story wise.  It's funny because this is the fourth in the Maisie Dobbs series, and I realized that they have all been audio books so far - I haven't actually "read" any of them!  But I do enjoy them, and the narrator's voice seems appropriate for the time period when they take place.

So that's it for today from me.  What about you?  What are you up to with your reading, knitting, and listening?

P.S. I hope none of you are unraveling, in any sense of the word!  :-)

Emotional unraveling is disconcerting. Prayers that you will find a course of action to soothe your anxiety and to help deal with the health concerns.

Love the socks. The green is my favorite - so cheerful and bright. I've never tried the afterthought heel and doubt I ever will.

I do hope your unraveling and stress will soon calm down. Life is too often unfair and piles things on, so I'm sending good thoughts, hope, and hugs. I like the way you got that unpleasant afterthought heel out of the way before casting on the second Mojito sock; those greens are fantastic and I can see why you'd want a finished pair asap!

Bridget- Interesting, I am doing an afterthought heel sock. The last one I did ddin't work. I am either tenacious or foolish.

Hope all is well soon.

I am so sorry that you are having health issues. They do come along with emotional unraveling; ask me how I know! I'm right there with you in the trenches. Onward.

I love the colors of your Mojito sock. That will be a fun second sock.

I also love reading nonfiction for myself -- no need to worry about what might be on the test!

Oh Bridget! Hoping you feel better soon...keeping you and your family members in thoughts and prayers. Your socks look great! I've wanted to try an after thought heel, but don't think I'll bother now - lol. Will be waiting for your review of the book - looks interesting (if detailed).

Sending lots of good healing thoughts your way - when you're ready to talk about it, we're ready to listen. Remember - when life's got you down... just keep knitting!

The socks look great. I'm a sucker for green, so I love the mojito sock!
I've been mostly working on the deadline shawl - I'm almost done the centre medallion - then it will be on to miles and miles of back and forth.

Hoping you feel better soon, the book sounds good, I know what you mean you can enjoy a book better when there is no threat of test or essay writing at the end of it.

Im so sorry for your trouble! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am down with a head cold and read much of the book A BLIND MAN CAN SEE HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU by BLoom. Some of the short stories were so good I didnt' want them to be short stories. Then I read Ravelry boards and blew my nose a lot

Nice finish! I like the idea of doing two socks at a time from different yarn. I get bored when they are both the same. I just cast on one from my new MDSW yarn and I'm in no rush with it or its mate.
I've got too many audio books going at once these days. The Kindle Fire is reading me The Handmaids Tale. My phone has the Grapes of Wrath and the Echo is reading me I Captured the Castle. They are all depressing the heck out of me so I need to add on something a bit lighter.

Hoping the stress eases soon. I added the Maisie books to my listening list. I love knitting and listening.

Emotional unraveling is never fun. Sending good thoughts your way. I am likewise not a fan of after thought heels. Pain in the backside, if you ask me! And, I love the Mojito socks! I am glad you joined us!

Sigh. I hate when Bad Stuff stacks up. Why? Why?! Must we be kicked when we are down already? My motto, which some may not agree with, is "Wallow a little, Bitch a lot." Then I snap out of it and force myself to do something constructive until I feel a bit better. (At least I have clean closets, cupboards, or shelves to show for it.)

Here's to a speedy bright light at the end of the tunnel. XO
