Unrelated But Interesting

Hello there - it's time for Three on Thursday, and today I am sharing three things that I came across recently and found interesting, though not related to one another.

The first is from a few months ago, and I kept forgetting to share it.  This article is about yarn that generates its own electricity!  As it turns out, we won't be knitting with it, which given my habit of having a cup of tea or something while I knit, is probably just as well.  It would be incredibly ironic if my tea spilled and I was electrocuted to death by the yarn.  In any event, I found it to be kind of fascinating.

I kept seeing people refer to a brouhaha that erupted as a result of something in the most recent Laine Magazine.  I didn't know what it was until I found a link to the Instagram post that started the whole thing.  I find the whole thing ridiculous, to be honest, and am never as amazed as when people take *personal* offense at something that was not about them in the first place, and then feel the need to let the rest of us know how offended we should be as well.  This whole thing, in my opinion, is seriously much ado about nothing.

I laughed a few times when I read this, since I am one of those people who are always listening to others' conversations when I am out in public.  Obviously, only when they are talking loud enough for me to hear, it's not like I break in to the group and sit there to listen!  But though there are aspects of this that are just too bad (no one likes to be lied to), the tweets amuse me greatly.

We're almost to the weekend - YAY!

I was reading too fast, missed the transitions and links, and was really confused about why people got offended about yarn that could generate electricity. That made about as much sense as people being offended by a non-smiling sweater model. It amuses me that Popular Science has to explain spinning in terms of Sleeping Beauty, and why is there no resolution to Gum Lady and Shot Lady?!

Interesting! :)

When I saw the photo I was like....finally they're using a model that has a real body. Knitwear is not always kind to the curvy figure so seeing something on a real person can save you a lot of knitting time. Who cares if they are smiling or not? Besides, with everything going on these days, who the heck feels like smiling?

I have that issue of Laine. So what WAS the brouhaha? I didn't see anything to be offended about.

I am an avid eavesdropper and so are my kids. My daughter was relaying a very bad first blind date that they listened in on....telling! People take offense too easy and people say too much on social media to cause it.

Bridget- Is that the picture of the model slouching and not smiling? Really, don't people have other things to worry about?

I was confused about the Laine thing, too, because the embedded links aren't a different colour, so it was hard to get with it at first. But I finally realized that they had to be in there somewhere, so I hovered my mouse around and found them.

Sometimes--and it pains me greatly to say this--the worst critics of women are other women. We crab about being judged by appearance, about models being stereotypical representations of beauty, and then a kerfuffle like this. I completely agree with all of Araignee's comment above. I found the picture refreshing!

Loved the livetweet article direct from Cleveland Hopkins Airport. I am a fan of Grace & Frankie, and that's the first thing I thought of!

I agree with you it should be much ado about nothing, however, hate emails are being sent. Which, sadly, takes it to a new level.

Thanks for the links :)

Bonny, you are not alone!!

I sometimes make the mistake of reading the comments on articles (not the comments here, of course) and am STUNNED by the hostility people need to share with the rest of us. As you said, it'snot about them in the first place! But, boy! are they happy to share their unhappiness.

Wait! Was that an oxymoron?

I clicked the link to the sweater pic, and I could not figure out what there was to be offended about. Looks like a nice sweater, looks like a nice person wearing the sweater. Pretty background. Then I read the comments. Some people have far too much time on their hands.

I found that brouhaha to be ridiculous as well I'm more troubled that we can't think anything about anything any longer! I didn't particularly like the styling of the photo but I don't think that qualifies as shaming/hating/judging etc. I just didn't like it! :-)
