That quote is so very true. My dad was a WWII vet. He very rarely spoke of his time in the service, and when we asked any questions, he was vague and deflected them. I knew from my mother that his regiment/troops/whatever liberated a concentration camp. I cannot imagine.
I did. My SIL was a Marine and spent two tours in Iraq. I thanked him for coming back alive and taking Daughter off our hands. Today he is burying his grandfather who died from Covid on Friday and waiting anxiously for news on his grandma who is still on a vent. Poor guy. That whole side of his family has been horribly affected. His cousin who owns a small restaurant had to be in quarantine and when he came back to work his business was essentially destroyed by the unscrupulous folks he left in charge. It's not just the sick who are suffering. Stay safe.
