Christmas in July 2019 - Week 3

Living as I do in the northern hemisphere, Christmastime is generally cold, or at least a decent cool.  I sure wish I had some of that right now ...

But I digress.

Hello all!  Can you believe that it's already Week 3 of

Christmas in July???

Well, it is, and this week I have another prize and more questions.

The prize this week is the combo pictured below.

That's a skein of Wooly Wonka Nimue Sock yarn, 435 yards/100 grams of 50% silk and 50% merino.  Sooo nice!  The colorway is Spiced Apple, and it's so pretty, especially with the slight sheen provided by the silk.  The small container next to contains seed beads, which due to my poor photography skills are difficult to see.  They are gold with some burgundy on them, and would look pretty amazing paired with this yarn.  It's not that I don't like knitting with beads, it's just that a) I don't do it often, and b) I still have approximately 1 million beads that remain from the few projects where I have already used them.

So these two items need a good home, where they will be loved and used, separately or together.

Interested?  Well, then you know the drill - answer the following questions in the comments to this post only.

1.  Lake, river, or ocean?
2.  Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?

Should you comment between now and midnight (EDT) on Sunday, July 21, 2019, you will be entered in the giveaway.  :-)

*****

I have started thinking about who may or may not receive handknit items this year for birthdays and/or Christmas, and what I may want to knit for those deemed worthy.  Right now, I have some foggy thoughts about it, but I have decided that one of the things I want to do this weekend is sit down and actually work it out.  That way, at least in theory, I can start now and not have last-minute worries.  I have been trying really hard to knit from my stash this year, and so I also want to think of things that will not require buying any new yarn if at all possible.  I did purchase yarn the other day for either a birthday or Christmas gift for The Tim, but it was for a very specific reason and only one skein, so I don't feel too bad about it.  I'll let you know if I make any progress on my plan, but I have to say I have high hopes.

If I can knit even a few items from my stash for gifts, it means that I use up some yarn, and also don't have to spend money I do not have on gifts - so it's a win-win!

What about you?  Do you try to plan ahead, or do you start knitting the day before?

River (the Delaware, but for fishing, not swimming) and can I say chocolate and vanilla twist? (I guess so, since I did.)

I usually only knit for my kids for Christmas, but they seem to think they have enough hats and fingerless gloves, so I'm not sure what I'll do this year. Figuring it out soon might be a good idea!

Oh, absolutely lake - as in Lake Michigan!! My favorite spot of all (and I sure as heck wish I had a chair planted there this week!)

And, I am with Bonny... a twist of vanilla and chocolate is the best!

I'm a Lake girl. We have a house on a private lake and a pontoon boat. I even fish for bass and take the fish off my hook (and anyone else's who needs help).

Chocolate is my go-to, always. I am a fan of The Twist, like Bonny, but I will always be true to Chocolate. The Twist tastes like Chocolate anyway.

I am planning my Christmas Knits and bought a bit of yarn for them. Some stash yarn is being used, too. I like to give myself plenty of time.

Lake and vanilla or vanilla/chocolate twist like Bonny!!

Please don't include me in the give-away...my stash over-flows and I don't do beads - lol.

I've started thinking of knitting for Christmas in a very, very vague way. Nothing specific and then I keep thinking of things I want to knit for me...because I'm selfish like that.

Ocean, although we live just a mile from Lake Michigan. Chocolate for sure. Thinking about Christmas projects might help you think cool.😏
I know, it’s been so hot and humid. Stay cool.

Ocean. I haven't been in ages, I am sad to say but I have lots of happy memories of Ocean City, MD where we always stayed at the Fountain Court Motel for a week every summer when I was a teen.

Vanilla when I am sane. Chocolate when I am not.

1, Lake, river, or ocean?
I'm so fortunate to spend the summer where we have to cross a river to get to the ocean! So I'll pick ocean but I do love a river.

2. Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?
Hmm. Not strawberry. I think it is easier to get really, really good vanilla (that I'd put fudge sauce on) than good chocolate, so I'll pick vanilla.

I don't need to be entered in the contest again, but I just have to say OCEAN, OCEAN, OCEAN.

And vanilla.

I sort of think of possible Christmas gifts year 'round, but seldom cast on until Fall.

Lake... but only because I have the most experience with that. I've only seen the ocean once and it wasn't suitable for swimming.

2. Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?
Strawberry!!!!! So many amazing desserts with strawberry, but I love, love, love, a good strawberry sundae on a hot day.

Ocean and vanilla. Together, if at all possible.

It’s tough to pick just one. I’m going with lake, since I live on one, and it will be a very sad day when we eventually have to downsize and not live here. And chocolate, because, chocolate.

I don’t do Christmas or birthday knitting for the most part. It’s way too much stress and I have enough of that. I knit socks for John, but he gets them throughout the year when they’re done.

Definitely the ocean and my favorite flavor is coffee but if I had to choose from those three I guess I would pick vanilla.

Lake ( I grew up in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York). Chocolate (but I do love a vanilla chocolate twist).

I actually already have 2 Christmas presents completed (but they were sewing not knitting, but they did use stash fabric :)

Ocean! Whether suitable for swimming or not. I just love to sit and watch the waves, or walk along the surf looking for shells and sea life. Sounds just wonderful today, our downstairs a.c. has conked out and we are sweltering. And chocolate, in all its forms.

I am only a sometimes holiday knitter. The whole period between Thanksgiving and New Years is pretty frantic for me, I work at a fancy grocery store so it means extra hours almost the whole time. I did knit socks for a dear friend last year, but then life got in the way and I didn’t even see her for months! I guess if I started now it would be smart, but that’s just not how I roll....

1) lake; for many years I lived on the lake and it was fun to see the wildlife. 2) vanilla.

I try and plan my knitting but it doesn't always work out. Those will be much cherished gifts that you will be knitting. 🧦

Oh I love the name of that yarn, Wooly Wonka! Ha! So funny. And I've never used seed beads in any knitting projects. I'm sure I could find inspiration with that yarn in front of me.

Your questions were easy for me this go-around, ocean and chocolate!

I started my Christmas knitting a little while ago. I've got mittens done for my daughter and a scarf for her boyfriend. I'm almost finished with socks for her for her birthday in early January. I'm planning to start some citrus pot holders, https://knitting-and-so-on.blogspot.com/2017/04/citrus-fruit-potholder.html, for both my son and daughter since they both will have their first apartments this year or next.

Thank you for your generosity.

1. Lake-preferably mountain and secluded, ringed by pines and echoing with the calls of waterfowl. Although a river would do in a pinch.
2. Chocolate all the way.

I'm usually a selfish knitter, but I've been contemplating Christmas knitting early this year, mostly because I somehow ended up as chair of our church's Christmas bazaar. Last year I was sidelined with a broken ankle in October, so I had a lot of knitting time and cranked out scarves and fingerless mitts for gifts.

And just a note to add that I enjoy your blog very much, though this is the first time I've commented. I lived in Philly for about 4 years before I moved to central PA and need to go back and visit the city again soon.
