Third Sunday of Advent 2020

The Risk of Birth, Christmas 1973
Madeleine L'Engle

There is no time for a child to be born,
With the earth betrayed by war and hate
And a nova lighting the sky to war.
That time runs out and sun burns late.

That was no time for a child to be born,
in a land in the crushing grip of Rome;
Honour and truth were trampled by scorn-
Yet here did the Savior make his home.

When is the time for love to be born?
The inn is full on the planet earth
And by greed and pride the sky is torn-
Yet Love still takes the risk of birth.

I don't remember where i came across it, but this quote stuck with me: "Babies are a sign that God wants the world to go on."

Thanks for sharing the poem.

This poem says everything I've been feeling since the birth of my grandson last week. My heart is so full of love and worry and anger and fear. It's been a roller coaster of emotion. Thanks for sharing.
