Right.Now.

This week for Ten on Tuesday, Carole asks us to list things that make us feel thankful - but then adds a twist by saying to list things making you thankful right now.

After some thought, here is my list of 10 Things I Am Thankful For Right Now:

1.  Thanksgiving itself.  It is one of my favorite holidays, and definitely the coziest one, in my opinion.  I love making food that I seldom/never make any other time of year.  I love watching parades, dog shows, stupid movies, and just existing.

2.  Four-day weekends.  I'll take it and enjoy every second!

3.  Knowing how to read.  Every now and then, I'm reminded that there are still plenty of people who have never learned to read, and I cannot imagine my life without reading.

4.  NaBloPoMo.  Truly!  It has made me think more, since a post a day is not the usual for me.  And I've enjoyed reading others' daily posts, and finding out that people are reading and commenting on my blog here.  It's been fun, if some days challenging.  :-)

5.  Safety.  I take it for granted, but at the same time, I also realize I have a pretty safe existence, and a WHOLE LOT better one than others.

6.  Health.  I'm doing pretty well, and that makes me happy *and* thankful.  Even though I think I might be coming down with a cold, it's OK as long as it's just a cold.

7.  Our house.  It of course falls into the larger category of thankfulness for shelter, but it is also appropriate here, because it is such a quirky little old row house, on a teeny street in Center City Philadelphia.

8.  Laughter.  If I didn't have the ability to laugh at myself and/or to be amused, I'm not sure I would find life very interesting or even worthwhile.

9.  Solitude.  I am for the most part happiest when I am left to my own devices.

10.  Train sounds.  I think I've said before that I have spent most of my life living someplace where I could hear trains.   Train sounds are the comfort food of my ears.

That's it for now.  This is one of those lists that are easy, but hard, and could also go on forever.  But these are my ten things.  Right.Now.

I too love train sounds, and have always lived by a rail line. When we moved to the place we are now, I was upset because while we were only two towns over on the same rail line, we were further from it, and there was a lot more industry between us and it - the chances of hearing it were really lessened. The trains also aren't allowed to blow their whistles before each crossing here either.
But... not long after we moved in.. I was in the yard, and I could hear a train chugging along... I'd completely forgotten, there's a rail line that runs up the escarpment a kilometre behind our house (it's also the same line that runs by my Mom's house, where I use to live!). No whistles... but still that comforting chugga-chugga click-click-click as it makes it's way up the side of the escarpment.

I'm with you on being thankful for Thanksgiving itself; I love the food, leftovers, and the fact that there is no stressful gift-giving. Also reading! I just read some worldwide literacy statistics, and while the worldwide literacy rate is 83%, it's as low as 24% for females in Afghanistan and 19% overall in Niger. Hard to imagine life without reading. :-(

Lots of ponderables on your list--I hadn't thought of several on your list, especially solitude.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Great list and yes to #9 - a major reason I love working from home. I like the solitude!

Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

I am with you on trains. I couldn't have put how I feel about them in any better words.

Thanksgiving is my VERY favorite holiday! I love the food and the togetherness and the coziness. I also love the focus on gratitude and giving thanks! (As opposed to the giving/getting presents.) Your list is wonderful -- thoughtful and inspiring. (I, too, love train sounds. My dad was a brakeman/switchman for the Union Pacific railroad, so train sounds always make me think of my dad!)

If I had made my own list it would have read almost exactly like yours. Trains, solitude, cozy Thanksgivings, etc. Uncanny!

I love the laughter and the train sounds. It seems to let us see "you" a bit more. These two things evoke a comfort for me. It might not be train sounds specifically for me, but I understand your appreciation of them. All the best!

#10 --- I thought I was the only one that loves the sound of trains.

I grew up living along the (at the time) Hatboro Local. And, I do mean RIGHT ALONG ---- the train headlight would shine IN our dining room window of our apartment. Yes, I missed a lot of punch lines of comedy shows on the TV, but it was all worth it.

I think now it is the Warminster Local and for awhile was the R5 line. Whatever you call it ......as a kid and teen, it was my FREEDOM!
