Well It Was Nice to Have Hope For a While

Again, I am not claiming my life is more difficult or tragic than people with real problems, so don't even bother to make those kinds of comments, because you know what?  I'll just delete them, so you've wasted your time and mine.

Looks like the hard drive from my old computer is really and truly dead.  So a lot of documents and photos are just plain gone.  And I have to tell you that it breaks my heart, because since I don't have a photo printer, it's not like I have printouts of the ones that mean the most to me.  True, some of them are on the blog or Instagram, etc., but that's not the same.  Some of them were of people and pets I will never have a chance to see again that I did not print out and were there long before social media or my blog existed.  Some of the documents were things I used regularly to help with paying bills, or knowing who to contact when issues came up both financially, or with repairs, etc.  You may say, well why didn't I back them up.  I did, but that drive died a few months ago and I had not been able to get a new one yet, I thought due to finances but finances mean nothing now when no one has any extra money anyway.

OK, so my pity party is over (at least here).  I have my memories, I have a few old printed photos that are now more valuable than ever, and hopefully I can recreate some of the documents if I can find the info all over again.  Life goes on and I will too.

In news about my Chromebook, I did get photos loaded from my camera into my Google Drive cloud or whatever.  However, I have not yet figured out how to edit anything, and sadly, nothing is "automatically" sorted the way it was (or that it was set up for me) on my old computer, so I know some of what I will be doing this weekend!

I do appreciate that so many of you agreed that The Tim and Hamlet were the ones to be blamed for my previous laptop's demise.  Because let's face it, the world is better when you can blame someone other than yourself, right?  😉

I hope all of you are hanging in there OK.  I particularly hope that none of you are part of the groups ignoring social distancing and showing up places where you shouldn't be without masks!  Someone on Twitter posted "If it's 'weak' to wear a mask, do these same people not use a potholder when taking something out of a hot oven?"  Good one, no?

Finally, here is a cartoon that a friend posted on Facebook that I thought all of you might find amusing - I know it pleased me when I saw it, both the words and the illustration.

Have the best weekend you can, and I'll see you next week, maybe even having figured out how to edit some photos so I can share them!

I will ask Steve if there is any work around to get your stuff off the hard drive (there might be!! he is pretty clever with things like that) Have a good weekend :)

I'm so sorry. This would truly send me right over the edge.

I do everything with Google Chrome. My photos go right from my phone to Google Photos where I edit them and then post them on my blog. I love it.

Oh no! I have been there and it sucks. Totally deserving of a pity party!

Oh, no! That is a horrid, worst-case scenario for a computer! I'd be just sick over it. You have every right to feel bereft and sad. And grieving.

As far as I'm concerned, there will always, always be those far worse off than we are. That doesn't mean that we aren't allowed to feel sad or upset or angry for our losses or circumstances. If we follow that logic, then all of our accomplishments will be paltry as well; after all, did we cure cancer? discover an element? save a life?

Have a restful weekend, Bridget. You deserve it.

My heart jumped into my throat when I read about your lost photos. That moment of sheer panic when you realize something is gone forever. . .

Dont' give up on your hard drive quite yet! There are clever people that might be able to help you (like Kat's Steve). It took a similar incident for me to get myself (1) an external hard drive to physically back up my computer, and (2) to purchase enhanced cloud storage -- and to learn how to use it appropriately. I realize that does NOTHING to alleviate your pain about the lost photos (been there . . . ), but it may help you chart a path for the future.

My heart breaks for you. Losing important old photos is just devastating.
XOXO

My hd died last year, and the guys at Best Buy / Geek Squad were able to get the files. Maybe there's hope...

I lost a bunch of pictures a few years ago of my kids growing up. It is heartbreaking. Great poem! It made me smile.

Keeping my fingers crossed that a ressurection is possible still. But either way, it still really sucks!

I am so sorry about the computer issues and losing all those valuable photos. I would be heartbroken too so don't even feel bad for a second that you are feeling bad about it all. When my desktop died a few years ago my computer guy was able to work his magic and got most of the photos off of it, not all but most and that was better than I ever thought would happen. I love that poem. Stay safe, Florida has gone crazy and no one is social distancing anymore. I am, and wearing my mask everywhere I go.

Hopefully, there is some magical way to retrieve your lost photos and documents. Sometimes it is the little things that push me over the edge. (Not saying that losing all your information is a little thing though.) Hoping you are having a wonderful, sunny weekend.

I am terribly sorry you lost so much stuff, I am praying for a miracle! Let's hope Kat's Steve can conjure up a way.
