Ugh-raveled

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend.  Ours was fun, and I'll share pictures and details soon.  But today is Unraveled Wednesday, and I wanted to participate, because I have a major UGH to share, as well as a new book.

While on our trip, I started the Strawberry Field socks with some yarn I had wound on my swift and winder before we left.  For once, I had no issues with the skein of yarn giving me trouble (no tangles, etc.), and there were no indications while winding that anything out of the ordinary was happening.  The pattern is tricky at first, and I had to rip back a couple of times, but I finally "got" it and knitted happily, pleased with how they were looking.  Yesterday afternoon, I sat down to work on them, and since I needed more yarn to work with, I gave it a slight tug.  It exploded.

I spent a bit more than an hour trying to salvage things, and ended up with the small ball of yarn at the top.  I was so upset and frustrated, working to get just that, I think I may just scrap it all and start something else with other yarn.  To say I'm disappointed is putting it mildly.

As for reading, I'm going to start this book today:

I thought it looked promising and figured it was worth a try.  Let's hope I have better luck with this than I had with my sock ...

I hate it when a yarn does that. I've tossed a few skeins because they are just not worth the frustration.

Does the yarn have silk in it? I find slippery yarns are the worst for that.

YIKES!!! What a bummer with the yarn. That would be enough for me to abandon and never buy that yarn again. The book looks really promising though - let us know how it is, please.

Oh, good golly!!! I've had that happen too. In fact, that big yellow thing I was working on was the worst ball of yarn I ever wound. I had to stop and pull out enough for each row and untangle all the middle yarn barf in the process. I need to remember to NEVER pull thin yarn from the middle of the cake. It's asking for trouble.

Ouch! It really sucks when that happens (particularly when it's so far into the process).

Bridget- Jeez I hate when that happens.

Let us know how you like the book.

UGH....must have been the weekend for yarn fooleywang! Only MINE was from the original skein.

:-( Good luck with the book. I'll be rooting through my shelves a little bit later for my new June book and my first cast on of June.

Oh yeah, yarn barf is the worst! I hope you can untangle the mess and resume your knitting.

Difficult Yarn is so . . . frustrating. Ugh is right! (And sometimes just not worth the hassle. . . ) Sending good yarn juju your way. XO

I hate it when that happens. Hope the yarn behaves now that it has been unraveled.

Argh! Oh, that is really the worst thing ever to happen with yarn! I hope that a brief time out for the yarn and a brief respite for you will find you both ready for the unraveling! And, that book looks interesting! I look forward to your review of it!

I am a great detangler - my yarn did that to me a few weeks ago and I spent hours undoing it...I wasn't happy so now I'm keeping balls in a project bag to handle them better.
