Knitting and Tylenol

OK, I have to ask? Do you ever have bizarre dreams after taking medication? Not necessarily prescription-level medication, but plain old cough medicine, Tylenol, etc.?

A couple of years ago, I had a pretty serious case of the flu, and a friend recommended Ny-Quil for sleeping through the night. I think I had taken Ny-Quil maybe once before, but a long time ago, and it left me with no memories of anything one way or the other. But this time around? YIKES. I had one of those dreams where it's completely terrifying, and you are conscious of being in a dream, but you can't wake yourself up, so it becomes even more terrifying. Never again. I poured that right down the sink drain the next morning.

But lately, I've had reason to take a couple of Tylenol on occasion, sometimes right before bedtime, and though 99% of the time, there's nothing I remember about sleeping afterwards, last night was ... just weird.

Last night, I took a couple of tablets right before I went to bed, because I had the tail end of a bad headache, and I was hoping to kick it out completely. I'm glad to say that this morning, the headache is a thing of the past. But I had a weird dream.

Who knows why, but for some reason in my dream, I was teaching Paul Rudd how to knit! I have to say, he was really nice about it, and eager to learn. And frankly, I don't remember if I was successful or not, but I do remember that even in the dream, I kept thinking to myself, "Why am I teaching Paul Rudd how to knit?"

As weird dreams go, this one was benign - he was pleasant, and seemed to sincerely want to learn to knit. But where did any of this come from? It's not like I'd recently seen something he was in, or read about him. I like him well enough but don't go out of my way to think about him at all - you know, like a celebrity crush or something. So who knows - maybe the Tylenol has nothing to do with it, because I don't remember such a thing happening before, but I do remember waking up this morning and being a) puzzled, and b) highly amused. Because you have to admit, the whole thing is pretty random.

But it was much better than the previously mentioned Ny Quil dream, so I'll take it! 😊

Celebrity Sighting

I have various routes I take on my walk to work. Depending on my mood, or the weather, I like to keep it from becoming monotonous.

This morning, I walked through Rittenhouse Square, and up 19th Street, towards La Colombe, a very popular coffee place in Philadelphia.  Right when I was at the door to the place, it opened, and someone came out ... it was James McAvoy!  I was so surprised, I said "Oh hi!" and he smiled and said, "'Morning, love."

Of course, I wanted to find out why he was in town.  So I checked his IMDB page (linked above) and didn't see anything so it was time to turn to Dr. Google.  It turns out the he recently married a woman from Philadelphia, and considers the city to be "his second home."  They met while he was filming a movie for M. Night Shyamalan (known in our house as "M Knight Shama-lama-ding-dong"), who is from here and shoots a lot of his movies in the city and the nearby areas.

(Now, the limited exchange I had with Mr. McAvoy is light years better than the time I ran into Robert McNamara (one of the architects of the Vietnam War, ugh) when we lived in DC.  He was walking towards me on the street, and I recognized him.  We had recently moved there, and he was the first famous (infamous?) person I'd spotted.  I went up to him and said, "Aren't you Robert McNamara?" and he smiled and said, "Yes," and then I excitedly said "I'm Bridget Clancy!" - you know, like he'd recognize that name.  Instead, he just walked away with a concerned look on his face.)

Anyhoo, back to James McAvoy and his wife.  Now that I know more, I need answers to the MOST important questions:

1. Where exactly do they live - are we neighbors?

2. Do they have pets?

3. Do either/both of them knit?

I'll let you know if my investigations bear fruit. 😉

It's That Time of Year Again!

Yep, it happens every year at this time, and it's so much fun!  Not my vacation (alas, that was last October), not a raise at work (hah!), not winning the lottery.

It's time for The Knitters' Hunk and The Knitters' Chick competition!!!

Once again, the intrepid Kim is hosting nominations for a contest that it not just fun, but often heated.  She started the whole thing a few years ago, and added The Knitters' Chick last year, at the suggestion of her son.  It is one of my favorite things to do, because people are so loyal, and there are so many different types of nominees. And yes, many of them are attractive, but they also are people that seem like they would be fun to hang around with, whether or not they are knitters.  I love the idea of celebrities being nominated for something like this, since it's so out of the normal awards, but more fun - at least for those of us voting!

Why don't you take part?  The three links above give you all the info you need to know.

Here are my nominations for this year, all of them people that I think would be a ton of fun to be around.

The Knitters' Hunk:

Jon Hamm

Denzel Washington

Stephen Colbert

The Knitters' Chick:

Helen Mirren

Tina Fey

Aisha Tyler

There are even prizes for those who nominate winners, so some extra incentive is there for you.  And remember - when this all becomes The Next Big Thing, you can say you were there at the beginning.  :-)

For a Good Time ...

I am using my 700th post (!) to suggest that you check this out:

It's just so much fun, and people get so involved, trying to have their nominee be the winner.  Every year, I'm amazed and impressed that Kim gets it all figured out, as it's the kind of thing that would sound good to me in theory, but drive me nuts actually putting into place.

This year, I nominated Jon Hamm, Denzel Washington, and Paul Rudd.  I usually decide on someone the day after nominations close, so I am quite proud of myself.

This year, she is adding another part, The Knitters' Chick, at the suggestion of her son.  I nominated, Rashida Jones, Sofia Vergara, and Meryl Streep.

For me, I just think the idea of hanging out with any of these people would be fun, even if they weren't knitters.  I have decided that a sense of humor and ability to laugh at yourself are real contributors to my idea of physical attraction.   Granted, the people I listed above may be considered "hunks" or "babes" by a lot of people, but for me, I thought of people who I enjoy before trying to think of who was good-looking.

In any event, check out the contest, and throw some names into the mix!  There's suspense, cliff-hangers, and prizes - who could ask for more???

And to quote my mother, "It sure beats spittin' ..."
