Snow Day Unraveling

Today in a rare move, my workplace closed before it was even time to go in, due to the nor'easter that is underway.  It was so nice to not have to slog my way to work only to be sent home in the thick of it.  Usually they wait until 2 or 3 o'clock if they decide to send us home at all.  And then people have all kinds of trouble getting home.  Hooray for whatever made them be sensible today!

So I figured I would join Kat and everyone else for Unraveled Wednesday

A week or so ago, it occurred to me that I have a new great-nephew due to arrive in April,  and if I wanted to knit something for him, I'd better get moving!  I decided to give this pattern a try, and got started.  So far, I've only had to frog/unravel once, when I realized I'd gotten completely off count.  But fortunately it wasn't too far into the knitting, so I wasn't too upset.  I'm back on track now, and am pleased with how it's looking.

The yarn color is a bit more green than the photo shows, and I have some little red car buttons to add.  I think it will be cute.  And who knows, it might even be finished before he's born!

Book-wise, I'm still listening to the audiobook version of The Amber Spyglass, and enjoying it.  On this past Monday, I started this book:

I think I may be one of the last people I know to give this a read.  From what I can tell, most people either love it or hate it.  I'm only about 70 pages in, and so far I like it, but it's over 700 pages long, so I've just begun to skim the surface.  I think I'll probably get a nice chunk of reading done today, as well as more knitting.

I may even bake something.  Snow days rock!

Congratulations on your snow day! Funny how we can be so close, but being one side of a snow line can make such a difference, although since we got a wind day on Friday, I can't really complain. (It's mid-40s here, with the sun trying to break through, and it hasn't snowed since about midnight.) Congratulations, too, on your knitting and the impending arrival of a new family member!

Enjoy your free day off!

Oh fun to have an unexpected day off from work. I'm glad the decision was made before you had to venture out in the storm.

Love the start of the baby sweater. I haven't read either book you mentioned, but I'll look for them.

Glad to read that you got the day off.

I think that cardi is going to be adorable. I always think cardis are so much more practical for babies. Getting a pullover over their giant sized heads is a pain in the neck --- probably for them too.

While I really appreciate the writing craft at play in The Goldfinch, I really didn't care much for the book. I always seem to feel that way with books by Donna Tartt. Somehow, I never relate/connect with her characters, which really detratcts from my enjoyment of the book. That said, I read everything she writes. Because she really is a master!

I've just found out one of my nephews is going to have a baby (well . . . his wife is!). I need to get to knitting a baby sweater. I think I'll see what you think of your project and maybe choose that pattern to make.

Awww, You make me feel better as I have to tink back on my shawl on the lace part. Sigh. part of the process right?

Nope --- I haven't read it.

I have not read that book and probably won't. (the reviews sound to iffy to me). I'm knitting a toddler cardigan and I love how quickly it knits up. I bet you are done with your sweater before you blink twice!

That garter yoke cardi is still one of my favorite knits! It's a great looking little sweater.
