Christmas in July : Part 3

OK, I don't know about you, but I'm surprised it is already the THIRD week in July - seriously, how have I missed it all??  But the good news is, today marks the third giveaway for Christmas in July!

I have to tell you guys, I'm thrilled this has gotten such a wonderful response.  I knew I would enjoy it, but I didn't know if anyone else would be as excited about it as I am, and it appears that at least some of you are.

This week's package is primarily made up of things I have in duplicate.  First, I Dream of Yarn, a coloring book for knitters and crocheters, with the images drawn by Franklin Habit.  I received my first copy of this in a prize package from Kim, and had fun with it.  However, in the next couple of months, I received FOUR more copies from people who "knew I liked knitting."  I gave the others to friends who were interested, but I still have this copy, and thought maybe some of you who "liked knitting"  might like to have this as well.   Then, another book, Knit the Sky, that is also a duplicate of a title I already have (coincidentally enough, also from Kim!)

On the bottom level, there are a pair of stretchy house slipper socks (commercial made), one with Santa's face and one with Mrs. Santa.  And finally, a copy of Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket pattern.

To be eligible for this giveaway, you need to answer the following question:

Good news:  You have just won a trip around the world, all expenses paid!
Bad news:  You have to be ready to leave in 24 hours, and you are only allowed to bring two crafty projects for the duration of the trip.
Question:  What two projects will you bring along and why?

Let me know your answers in today's comments, and I'll choose a winner at random on this coming Sunday, July 22, at 5 p.m. EDT.

Good luck!

A shawl (probably Reyna since it's very easy and can be almost any size) and a blanket. Don't want to run out of something to do. Can make the blanket in squares or strips and keep going until the yarn is gone or the trip is over. I am looking forward to this trip!

I will bring my scrap yarn blanket and a pair of simple socks. I'm assuming that we will visit cities where things can be purchased ............see, no problem!

I'm not BRINGING more than two. You didn't say I couldn't BUY more than what I brought. LOOP HOLE!

Okay, so obviously one project should be mindless knitting -- lots of travel time in an around the world vacation -- and one should be more complicated. Also, one should be larger -- a sweater or a shawl that could become part of my travel wardrobe -- and the second should be something small that fits in my day bag -- a skein or two total, max, so either a shawlette or a pair of socks. I would consider my Icelandic sweater, which has only one sleeve knit, but it's a single strand of unplied, highly breakable yarn, which doesn't like to leave the vicinity of my couch, so I think that should stay at home.

That's a lot of waffling, isn't it? Let's go with the sock pattern Effervescence in the Soot Sprites [Heart] Rainbows yarn I got at MDSW this year for small, but not just stockinette. And I think for something larger, I'd choose Loop, a shawl that uses 2-3 skeins of fingering weight yarn, which could be turned into socks if I end up hating out the shawl looks.

I don't tend to knit at all when I travel, so I would probably take no projects at all. Maybe a sock to knit on the airplane????

Tough question - I wouldn't want to pack a bulky project, as I need space in my suitcase for purchases. I'd take yarn for a Baby Surprise jacket (I ❤️ that pattern) and a Jarod Flood Noro Striped Scarf.

Hmm hmm hmm. I would bring Rings of Change https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rings-of-change with really light laceweight yarn, and then a pair of socks in a plain yarn that I could knit and reknit if I got bored. And I'm buying yarn from everywhere I go!

I would probably take my Match & Move and my sister's unfinished socks. I'd love to finish them, and it just so happens that I was sitting next to Dee on the plane and she told me about the "buy more yarn" loophole. So if I ever did finish those two seemingly unfinishable projects I would also buy more yarn. (Souvenir yarn never counts.) I do love your Christmas in July - great questions!

This is an easy one. I have two sweaters I just started and the only chance in hell they have to ever get finished is if I am on slow boat to China!

A pair of socks. Always someone to give away to and a baby sweater. Can always buy more on the way. 😜 seajaes on ravelry

(commenting, but please do not count me in this give away after my win last week!)

Hmmm, I would absolutely take a sock for plane knitting and perhaps the pattern for KK's Colorwash Scarf (from MDK Field Guide No. 3) because Bonny and Dee are amazing enablers and I will buy the yarn for it on the journey!

Great question!!

Oh geeze. Thank goodness Dee came up with the loophole! So, a sweater because they take me FOREVER to knit an socks because, you know, socks. Fun!!! What time is my flight?

I would bring along a pair of socks, just because they are easy to knit anywhere. And maybe a nice simple lace shawl- still portable but a little more challenging.

Socks and a shawl. Socks - simple I've finally memorized the heel turn after all these pairs, but I can do what ever I want with the leg. Shawl, don't which pattern, but bigger project and if I finish it I can use it. (Same with the socks.) Is vacation yarn buying allowed? More than one pair of socks may be made.

I love the Christmas in July theme going on! Alas, I was supposed to start my project last week, but a new obsession has taken over and it might need to be Christmas in August for me, but it is what it is :)

Fun Times!!
