Reading But Not Unraveling

Needless to say, I have no knitting to either talk about or show you today.  I have been enjoying my yarny Advent calendar, and once I can get some decent photos with my camera, I'll share that with you, at least what I have so far.

But I am reading away, as I have been.  You may or my not remember that I like to read holiday-themed books when the holiday is here.  So right now, I'm reading two books related to Christmastime:

This one I received as a Christmas gift a few years ago.  I lost track of it and found it last summer (not really lost, just not where I expected to find it!):

I am a big fan of P.D. James, and am happy to have some things from her that I haven't read.  This is my lunchtime read for this week.

I started this one at home last night, when I wasn't in the mood to watch TV at all.  I only have read the first chapter, but so far I'm really enjoying it.  The only other book I've read by this author is The Shell Seekers, years ago, but I remember enjoying that as well, and though it was a long book, it didn't take me long to finish.  So we'll see if this proves to be similar.

I'm joining Kat and everyonen else today for Unraveled Wednesday, so if you are interested, take a look to see what others are up to - most likely with some knitting included in their posts!

I loved that book! It's hard to find a good holiday listen that's not sappy sweet. This was a good one.

I loved all of Rosalind Pilcher’s novels and was so sad when she retired from writing in 2000. She is in her nineties now. Winter Solstice is a special one to me. There is a part near the end that gave my (now) husband and me the impetus to get married in our 50’s.

I'm a big P.D. James fan, as well. I'll be eager to hear what you think of the Mistletoe book (I haven't read that one either). And the only Rosamund Pilcher I've ever read was The Shell Seekers. My mom was always a big fan of Rosamund Pilcher -- and I believe she had that book in her library. Happy reading, Bridget! XO

I like Christmas themed books also. I have a few favorites that I reread every year. I might have to add P.D. James to the collection. Enjoy your winter reading.

I enjoyed Winter Solstice and I'm going to check out Mistletoe Murder. There is something interesting about (fictional!) murder and mayhem at Christmas time.

Rosamunde Pilcher is one of my favorite authors. I think Winter Solistice was her last book. In my opinion, Shell Seekers was by far her best work. Her son is also an author.

Sometimes the unraveling of a book is the best thing about Unraveled Wednesdays!

I am so glad to have you join us! XO

I love Rosamunde Pilcher but I haven't read her for years! Thanks for the reminder. She is an amazing author and I have this vague memory she said she was retiring over a decade ago, maybe that's why I never looked. I loved "September" and "Coming Home" especially. Thanks!

I've never read Rosamunde Pilcher. The cover is pretty. I may have to see if our library has it.
