No End In Sight

America is a Gun (by Brian Bilston)

England is a cup of tea.
France, a wheel of ripened brie.
Greece, a short, squat olive tree.
America is a gun.

Brazil is football on the sand.
Argentina, Maradona's hand.
Germany, an oompah band.
America is a gun.

Holland is a wooden shoe.
Hungary, a goulash stew.
Australia, a kangaroo.
America is a gun.

Japan is a thermal spring.
Scotland is a highland fling.
Oh, better to be anything
than America as a gun.

When "children" play violent video games from the time they are little .......

What is the goal? The goal is to "level up". With each level up, there is a thrill. But, when you have reached all the levels, what then? Do you move out into the real world to see a BIGGER thrill.

Violent movies and violent video games change the structure of the brain. You constantly seek the next thrill.

While regulating guns is a very important step, changing what passes for "entertainment" is so much more important.

And it's not just out country --- it's lovely England, it's Sweden, it's Germany. We don't have a lock on gun violence, we are just so much better at it.

I read many blogs. Yours is the only I’ve seen address this. I am so very tired of this senseless violence. The answer is definitely not arming teachers, making schools more difficult to enter. The answer is gun control, pure and simple. Thank you for your words.

I watched it unfold on Twitter yesterday and it made me physically ill. I had to look away and I'm ashamed.
In my defense....my son was in the Navy Yard the day of the mass shooting there. I know what it feels like to wait to hear if your kid is alive. Those few hours felt like a lifetime.
I also was a teacher during the DC Sniper event. We had to use our bodies to shield our kids to put them on the bus coming and going every day for months after he shot one of our county students. We made a human wall. It was a feeling I'll never forget.
Yes, America is a gun and enough will never be enough I am sad to say.
